State of Texas Lone Star Commemorative Coins

Official State of Texas Precious Metal Coinage

State of Texas Lone Star Commemorative Coins, also known as Texas Lone Stars or Texas Coins, are official commemorative precious metal rounds issued under the direction of the Texas Bullion Depository®. Crafted in fine (.9999) gold and silver, these commemorative coins are produced to the highest standards and represent a distinctive expression of Texas history, identity, and pride. Each commemorative coin is designed to serve as both a tangible store of value and a lasting tribute to the people, places, and events that have shaped the Lone Star State.

A Living Series of Texas History

The State of Texas Commemorative Coin collection is designed as an evolving series. In the tradition of sovereign mints, our intent is to provide both an enduring perennial design updated each year with a new issue date — the first of which released in 2026 — as well as novel, limited-edition obverse (front) designs to commemorate significant historical milestones, influential figures, and enduring symbols of Texas. This approach allows the series to tell the story of Texas over time while maintaining a consistent foundation that unites every product in the program.

Bullion and Proof Editions

Texas Lone Stars are issued in both gold and silver, with multiple finishes available:

  • Bullion Editions: Produced for those seeking high-purity precious metals in a refined, accessible format.

  • Proof Editions: Struck with exceptional precision to achieve enhanced detail, depth, and finish for collectors.

Each commemorative coin reflects a commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and authenticity.

Collections

So far, we have produced the following series of commemorative products:

The 2026 State of Texas Lone Star Commemorative Coin Series

The first year of our perennial design, the Lone Star captures the enduring spirit of Texas through a striking depiction of Lady Liberty seated beside the Texas State Capitol — a powerful symbol of strength, governance, and Texas independence. Rich in architectural detail, the design honored the state's proud legacy as a former republic, while Lady Liberty, raising the Lone Star above the Capitol dome, embodied the ideals of freedom, unity, and the resilient spirit that continues to define Texas. The 2025 State of Texas Commemorative Coin Series

A highly limited production run, this initial design was produced to help test our processes and partnerships to ensure we could deliver a product worthy of the State of Texas — and it delivered, producing an iconic high relief design that has become a collectible piece in short order thanks to its short and storied production life. The State of Texas Commemorative Modern Redbacks

The Texas Modern Redbacks reimagined one of the most iconic forms of early Texas currency for the modern era. Inspired by the original Republic of Texas "redbacks" issued in 1839 and 1840, these commemorative gold bills combined historic Texas symbolism with tangible intrinsic value through layers of 24-karat gold. As part of the inaugural 2025 release, the Modern Redbacks became a distinctive tribute to Texas independence, history, and enduring pride. Learn More >>

The Enduring Reverse

While obverse designs may change, the reverse of every Texas coin remains constant, serving as the defining hallmark of the series. At its center is a detailed interpretation of the Official Coat of Arms of Texas, a symbol that traces its origins to the Republic of Texas, re-imagined to suit the medium by famed artist and coin designer Joel Iskowitz.

The reverse design, among Joel's last ever completed, features the iconic five-pointed Lone Star, encircled by live oak and olive branches bound together. Encircling the design are inscriptions that reinforce the identity and heritage of the state, including "THE STATE OF TEXAS" and the simple, iconic state motto that reflects its culture and people: "FRIENDSHIP".

This enduring reverse establishes continuity across all future releases — regardless of metal, size, or finish — and is intended to become a recognizable symbol of Texas coinage for generations to come.

Symbolism Rooted in Texas Heritage

Every element of the reverse design carries meaning:

  • The Lone Star: A long-standing emblem of Texas independence and identity.

  • Live Oak Branch: Representing strength, endurance, and resilience.

  • Olive Branch: Symbolizing peace and prosperity.

Together, these elements reflect the values and legacy that define Texas — past and present.
